Downtown Grand Rapids Art Museum Summer Wedding | Kaitlyn & Tyler

Updated: Sep 14

On a warm & sunny Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan Kaitlyn and Tyler added another chapter in their love story. They were married at the Grand Rapids Fountain Street Church in front of their many family and friends. Their ceremony was traditional and elegant!

Before Kaitlyn walked down the aisle, she mentioned that she wanted to share a special moment with her father. Being photographers, we jumped at the opportunity to set up and photograph such a special moment. We positioned her father in front of a beautiful window in the church, making sure the groom and guests were nowhere in sight. Kaitlyn walked up behind her father then tapped his shoulder. Once he turned and looked at her, he had this overjoyed look on his face, then the emotion hit him and it hit hard. He turned back around not able to speak for about a minute. They both wiped their tears and hugged. The moment was so touching and genuine and we were so happy to be able to set that up for them. A moment they will never forget.

Let’s take a moment and talk about Kaitlyn’s dress. It was gorgeous! It fit her perfectly and was just the right amount of sparkle. Bianka Bridal did an amazing job at helping her find such a perfect dress to compliment her beauty.

While Kaitlyn was sharing her first look with her father, Tyler was downstairs getting himself and his dog, Toby ready. Toby was to be one of their ringbearers. Tyler dressed him in a vest and bowtie for the big day. Toby was such a good boy, and you could tell how much he meant to them.

Kaitlyn was a stunning bride as she walked down the aisle to her handsome groom, Tyler. They said their vows to one another and shared an adorable kiss at then end. Such a sweet and graceful ceremony.

After the ceremony the bride and groom and their wedding party got on a party bus to go take pictures at a few local parks. The first stop was at Provin Trails where we focused on our bride & groom portraits. The trails were surrounded by tall pine trees and beautiful lighting. Kaitlyn had a cathedral length veil which made for gorgeous photos! We then went to downtown Grand Rapids to the blue bridge which overlooks the Grand River to take pictures of their wedding party. Did I mention they had a wedding party of 26? YES. That’s right, 12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen. The biggest wedding we’ve had the pleasure of photographing. They were so high energy and a blast to shoot. It really made for some amazing group shots! Speaking of shots… Z’s Bar and restaurant was the next stop. The wedding party wanted to take a shot at the bar before heading to the reception. Twenty-five green tea shots were ordered (one of the bridesmaids was pregnant) and we were off to the reception!

The cocktail hour and reception were held at The Grand Rapids Art Museum. The cocktail hour was held outside the museum with a large bar and hors d’oeuvres for their guests to enjoy. Guests then popped gold confetti as the bride and groom descended the stairs at the front of the museum while cheering them on.

The reception was breathtaking with stunning greenery, beautiful gold candelabras and cascading crystals giving us beauty and the beast vibes. Ludema Floral did a fantastic job setting up the centerpieces!

After the a few special speeches a delicious dinner was served by Gilmore Catering. Guest had three options for dinner steak, chicken, or pasta. The steak was very tasty and cooked to perfection!

Kaitlyn and Tyler then shared their first dance together in the auditorium under the twinkly lights. The lights of the auditorium are positioned on the ceiling to look like the constellations during the summer solstice! So Cool! Their first dance was very classy! You could tell they practiced, and it paid off! Kaitlyn and Tyler then had emotional dances with their mother and father. Open dancing begins and the guests were ALL out on the dancefloor, dancing to the amazing Bluewater Kings Band!!

We ended the night with a few blue hour photographs outside the museum. There was a small park across the street with trees and twinkly lights. We didn’t want to keep them long, so it was a short and sweet way to end such a wonderful day.

Kaitlyn and Tyler’s wedding was timeless and elegant, and we were so honored to be a part of their big day! We wish you two the best and hope you have a blast on your honeymoon to Europe!
